JR West marks 20 years since fatal derailment with renewed vow for safety

On the 20th anniversary of one of Japan’s deadliest train disasters, West Japan Railway (JR West) held a memorial ceremony to honor the lives lost and injured during the 2005 Fukuchiyama Line derailment. The event, held at the crash site in Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture, revisited the tragic accident that claimed 107 lives when a rapid service train derailed after entering a curve at excessive speed. JR West renewed its commitment to safety standards to prevent similar tragedies from occurring.
